NATIONAL CALL FOR COMPOSERS
Selection of one composer for the implementation of a debut opera
The Italian association based in Forlì, Associazione Musicale Bruno Maderna, in cooperation with Associacion Cultural “Amigos de la Orquesta Ciudad de Almeria (Spain) and Udruzenje Urban (Sarajevo, Bosnia) winners of the European project Eu.Terpe “A debut opera for an inclusive Europe”
launches a selection to identify three composers that will participate in the making of a debut opera.
The musical composition will give its first performance in three concerts in 2018 (Forlì, Almeria, Sarajevo) and the whole production will be documented in a movie that will be presented in August 2018 in Sarajevo.
The call is composed of two main steps. The first step is characterized by three different calls in Italy, Spain and Bosnia; the second step will be carried out by the three countries together.
Selection of the composers
Art. 1 COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The participation is open to all composers, both students and professionals, resident or with Italian, Bosnian or Spain nationality, come of age (18 years old +)
Art. 2 RULES FOR APPLYING
All musicians will have to send one of their own compositions (or part of it) in digital format PDF (score), recording format mp3 (where possible) and a curriculum vitae.
In the case of graphic characters or unedited symbols, the authors will have to make explanatory tables for a proper understanding of those signs.
Art. 3 DOCUMENTATION
Registration will be completed by sending the application form, filled with the following information
– Name, surname, place and date of birth, nationality, address, e-mail, phone number
– Declaration of acceptance of the competition rules
– Declaration of consent and non- storage of the work made, keeping it free from copyright for the purposes of EU.TERPE project
– Declaration of consent to the processing of personal data of the participant in the competition (Italian Legislative Decree 196/03- Privacy Code)
– Declaration of participation to the transnational meeting in Sarajevo (From 10th to 12th October 2017) and to the first concert in Forlì (13th February 2018)
– Recent picture
– Photocopy of an identity document
Art. 4 COMMISSION
The jury, chaired by Mr Mauro Montalbetti will be composed of: Mr Francesco Antonioni (Italy) and Mr Michael Thomas (Spain).
Art. 5 POWERS OF THE JURY
The decisions taken by the jury, whose authority is recognized by the candidates for the very fact that they are competing, are conclusive.
Art. 6 RESULTS
The results of the selection will be published on the website of www.eu-terpe.com Winners will also receive personal communication of their selection. The decisions of the Jury will be published by 25th September 2017
Art. 7 CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES
The scores and all documents must be sent exclusively by web: www.eu-terpe.com/call-for-composers by the 11th September 2017, 17.00 (CET). CLOSED
The contest winner will receive:
– the performance of the score during three concerts in Forlì, Almeria, Sarajevo 2018
– audio and recording of the concerts that will be included in a documentary movie presented on movie projection in Sarajevo .
The three selected composers (Italy, Spain, Bosnia) will share a common path in the making of an orchestral work. Guided by the principal conductor of the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra Mr. M. Baghboudarian. Musicians will meet in Sarajevo (October 2017) for a working stay and there , they will share their own creative journey. Each musical language will thus combine together with the Syrian musical tradition stressing the real purpose of this call: extend the interaction between different cultures.
From this meeting the composers will be inspired in the making of their own piece of music.
ORCHESTRA MEMBERS: The orchestra is composed of musicians coming from the Maderna Orchestra (Forlì – Italy), the Orquesta Ciutad de Almeria (Almeria – Spain), Sepo Orchestra (Syrian Expat Philarmonic Orchestra).

DURATION OF THE COMPOSITION
The three works will have to have a duration of 7 minutes maximum (each composition).
All travel costs, subsistence and accommodation will be covered by the Organization of the Competition.
